Incremental Steps For Long Lasting Weight Loss

Your skinny jeans do not have to be a thing of the past. You can get back into them but you will need a little time. The process of giving birth has taken its toll on your body and you should allow your body the proper time it needs to heal.

The first mistake anyone trying to lose weight makes is usually by setting their expectations too high. What this means is that there is this stigma that once you are on a ‘diet’ you should start magically dropping pounds. This often does not occur.

In fact, it is this very misconception that pushes so many to abandon their efforts before they really begin. Even if successful in lowering your daily calorie intake, you will more likely to binge if you make sudden changes. Setting unrealistically high goals do nothing but set yourself up for failure.

The bottom line is when you set high expectations that are often unrealistic you are just setting yourself up for failure. If you really want to thin out of your maternity wear you have to set realistic goals for your weight loss. In addition to setting your own goals, make sure you consult your personal doctor to ensure you are proceeding in a healthy manner.

Set yourself up for success by setting small, incremental weight loss goals. When you aim to lose up to ten percent of your starting weight, this is an achievable number. This will give you a realistic number to work with, as opposed to looking at all of the amount of weight you have to lose at once.

A healthy way to lose weight is to drop between 1-2 pounds on a weekly basis. This means that you have to put your numbers in perspective. If you have 25 pounds to lose you should give yourself at least three months to steadily lose this weight. You can do this by exercising more or eating less, or both. Aim to burn between 500-1000 calories per day.

Always celebrate your small successes. Instead of waiting to lose all of your desired weight, celebrate each time you lose 5 pounds. This will keep you feeling motivated when you know you have reached a milestone.

Keep a fitness and health journal. This will help you track your exercise and eating habits. You can watch as your food lists get shorter and your work outs get longer. When you drop weight steadily you are more likely to retire your overweight clothes permanently behind the old portable space heater in your closet.
